Since the Attack on Titan season 4 trailer dropped, anime fans have been speculating about a massive time skip. The time skip was confirmed by the premiere of AOT Final Season’s first episode. It is a long one,.
This article contains spoilers about Season 4 Episode 1 titled Attack on Titan, “The other side to the sea”. You can proceed at your own risk!
Time Skip in Attack On Season 4:
Season 4’s first episode focuses on the conflict between Marley and Mid-East Allied forces, which is taking place on the other side. Fort Slava is under siege by the Marley forces. It is the last Allied forcehold. Marley could capture Slava and wipe out the naval fleet of Allied forces. This would give them victory.
However, we can see that Marley has struggled against the enemy even with the power and might of Titans. The war started because Marley failed the Founding Titan to be captured and lost the Female Titan and Colossal Titan. This was Theo Magath, commander of Eldian forces within the Marley army states.
Allies saw the opportunity to attack Marley and used it as a weapon. The war that started then has continued for four long years. Marley manages to capture Fort Slava, and eventually win the war, thanks to the aerial attacks by the Beast Titan, Armored Titan, and Armored Titan. With the Cart and Jaw Titan supporting them on the ground, Fort Slava and their anti-titan artillery couldn’t do much.
What is the length of the Time Skip?
It has been confirmed that Attack on Titan Season 4 has a four-year-long Time Skip. This means that the return of Shiganshina, which occurred in the year 854 was four years before. Current events take place in the 854.
If we go back to Season 3, we see that Eren and six other Survey Corps members went on a scouting mission outside Wall Maria. The Battle of Trost District took place one-year after this event. The Battle of Trost took place in the year 851. The scene in which Eren, Armin and Mikasa reach the sea was also set in the year 851.
This calculation shows that there is a three year time skip. Reiner and other Marley Warriors were last seen four years ago. Fans noticed the time skip in the trailer. This was due to the older designs and changes in hairstyles. Reiner’s age was evident in the trailer’s shot.
Not only this, but Reiner seems to still be suffering from mental scars after all these years. We see him mention that he is sick with Walls. It will be interesting to see his split personality evolve as the series progresses.
What happened to Survey and Eren corps?
We don’t see Eren and his comrades in this episode. As the ED starts to play, we get a glimpse at a certain character. Jean will be most likely revealed if you look closely at the new character designs in the trailer.
Jean could be found in Marley if the survey corps (or Eren?) is also present. They are also here. What is their plan? What are their plans?
